Land Acknowledgement

The land where Scarborough Youth United (SYU) carries out our work is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Tkaronto/Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands, as well as the Dish With One Spoon Wampum and the Two Row Wampum.

What we do

SYU has been providing leadership development and civic engagement opportunities for youth across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). SYU strongly believes in building capacity in our communities and infuses leadership training opportunities in every step of the projects/events planning process so the youths have opportunities to practice their skills, develop knowledge and reflect on their lived experiences to realize their power and potential.

“You can never stop and as older people, we have to learn how to take leadership from the youth...”

— Angela Davis
